Reporting from the annual HR Forum aboard the Oriana, Employee Benefit’s David Woods noted the recurring theme of reward and recognition in the session “Employee engagement: Re-inspiring and empowering staff”.
Speaking at the forum, Moira Nangle, director for organisational development at Virgin Atlantic Airways (VAA), highlighted the line manager as the gate keeper of employee recognition, ensuring employees feel valued, inspired and satisfied in their role.
Also speaking during the session was Andrew McMillan, customer services manager at John Lewis Partnership, who recalled that since the Partnership’s inception in the 1920s, the importance of looking after staff has been on a par with that of looking after customers.
Such reinforcements of the integral part that reward and recognition has to play in propogating an engaged, valued and motivated employee must provoke a discussion of the tools on offer to facilitate the reward of employees.
