The chancellor’s Autumn budget provided some help to embattled employees by increasing the tax threshold but with the revised growth reforecast it’s likely that both wages and disposable income will remain stagnant for some time to come. Mr Hammond had put much hope in improving productivity which, if the targets had been reached, would have provided an important improvement in the country’s finances and businesses alike.
