How to combat Blue January?

With the most depressing day of the year (Blue Monday) falling on 15th January this year many of us are feeling sluggish and down, especially after the excitement of the festive period. Blue Monday is based on a culmination of factors such as weather, debt, time since Christmas and many more. How can organisations, managers and HR teams help employees to get motivated at this time of year? Here are our top 3 suggestions:

1. Engage

Encourage employees to be social whether that be getting together at lunchtime or posting on the community board about their own motivator tips for January. Communication is key throughout an organisation and ensuring open channels for this is important for management. Does your engagement platform offer such communication channels? Do you have a regular communication plan as part of your service? Does your provider support your communication plan? 

2. Motivate

January is the traditional time to set resolutions, such as get fit, save money etc etc. It is also the time of year people look for a holiday. An employee engagement platform can really help with the goals people set such as access to discounted gym membership and shopping discounts giving employees cashback on almost everything – the dream summer holiday for example. What does your programme offer in terms of helping you motivate your employees to achieve their goals?  

3. Support

Do you offer a Health and Wellbeing programme that can support employees with emotional, physical and financial wellbeing? Things that are included in these programmes are discounted gym membership, Employee Assistance Programmes, loans, debt advice, health cashplans, health assessments and much more.

Encourage your employees to get out on their lunchbreak for some sunlight (let’s hope!) and fresh air and remind your employees of the tools they have available to them. Encourage them to keep an eye on each other.
